Relaxation and Awareness

swanRELAXING can be achieved by getting your body comfortable and then tensing and then relaxing collections of muscle in the body in turn. Some will find this relaxation of the body helpful others will not.

On the other hand for some people AWARENESS may be more helpful than relaxation. When it is suggested that you relax you might try rather to 'be aware' of those areas of your body where you are tensed up; this simple awareness may help towards relaxation as a kind of by-product. As with everything this will not work for all.

AWARENESS is probably also the key to calming down our emotions and our ever-active minds. Try sitting and attempting for a short period to empty yourself of all thoughts and feelings. When, as will inevitably happen, you find a feeling or an idea coming to you, name the feeling or thought... 'I am thinking that...' or 'I am feeling...'

By naming the thought or the feeling you may find you begin to have power over it and begin to defuse it.
